Vestas has received a 390 MW order for the Shinan-Ui offshore wind project in Jeollanam Province, marking the company’s first offshore wind contract in South Korea. The project is developed by Shinan-Ui Offshore Wind, a consortium including Hanwha Ocean, SK Eternix, KOMIPO, Future Energy Fund, and Hyundai Engineering & Construction.

The order comprises 26 V236-15.0 MW offshore wind turbines and a 20-year service agreement to ensure reliable and optimised performance. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2027, with commercial operations expected in 2028.

Purvin Patel, President of Vestas Asia Pacific, said, “We are proud to partner with Hanwha Ocean on this milestone project and introduce our V236-15.0 MW turbines to South Korean waters. These turbines, deployed in Europe, bring proven technology and large-scale offshore deployment capabilities to Korea.”

The V236-15.0 MW turbine received type certification in 2023 and has already secured over 9 GW of firm orders globally, demonstrating Vestas’ competitiveness in the offshore wind sector. The project supports South Korea’s clean energy transition by delivering large-scale, reliable, and homegrown renewable energy.
