Vietnam’s Boviet Solar Launches U.S. Manufacturing Facility in North Carolina

30 Apr 2025
Boviet Solar Technology, a Vietnamese solar manufacturer, has officially opened its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Greenville, North Carolina. The new plant, part of a multi-phase expansion, will have an annual production capacity of 2 gigawatts (GW) of photovoltaic (PV) modules, utilizing PERC and N-Type solar cell technologies. Phase 2, scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026, will add another 2 GW capacity and represent an additional $100 million investment.

The $294 million facility will produce Gamma Series Monofacial and Vega Series Bifacial PV modules designed for various applications including residential, commercial, industrial, and utility-scale projects.

Marco Marques, General Manager of Boviet Solar USA Manufacturing Operation, emphasized that the plant is a significant step in strengthening U.S. clean energy supply chains and contributing to North American energy independence.

The opening of the factory comes at a time when Boviet faces significant challenges from U.S. trade tariffs. In recent developments, the U.S. Department of Commerce levied high antidumping and countervailing duties on solar cells from several Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam. Boviet's products will face tariffs of 82.65%, with additional subsidies and dumping margins imposed.

These tariffs, which are higher than the initial rates, stem from an investigation into whether companies in countries like Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam have been unfairly flooding the U.S. solar market, affecting the competitiveness of domestic manufacturers.
