Welsh Government Approves EDF Renewables’ Garn Fach Wind Farm Project

23 Oct 2024
Welsh Ministers have approved EDF Renewables UK's application for the 85MW Garn Fach Wind Farm, located south of Newtown, Mid Wales. The project will consist of 17 turbines and a co-located battery energy storage system to enhance the flexibility and integration of renewable energy onto the national grid.

Jon O'Sullivan, Director for Onshore Wind at EDF Renewables UK, expressed satisfaction with the Welsh Government's approval, stating, "The site is an excellent location for a wind farm and has the potential to make a significant positive impact in Wales and to the local community."

The Garn Fach Wind Farm promises not only to generate renewable energy but also to create jobs and develop new footpaths and cycle tracks across the site. A visitor car park will also be established to enhance accessibility. Additionally, a community fund worth over £10 million will be established over the project's lifetime, demonstrating EDF Renewables UK's commitment to community engagement.

The company is also dedicated to habitat enhancement and restoration measures, which will contribute to improving biodiversity on site.
