US - Ambitious offhshore wind goal

According to the Biden administration, they have set an ambitious goal of deploying 30 GW of offshore wind by 2030 in the U.S. and hope to achieve a 30% reduction in the cost of fixed-bottom offshore wind to support this target.

On March 29, the White House released its Offshore Wind Energy Strategy, which serves as a comprehensive summary of the administration's current and future actions. The strategy outlines near-term priorities, including optimizing wind turbine design and siting, streamlining installation, operations, and maintenance strategies, all aimed at reducing the cost of fixed-bottom offshore wind from $73/MWh to $51/MWh by the end of the decade.

The Department of Energy, which wrote the report, suggests that improving the efficiency of these strategies could help achieve the cost reduction goal. However, the U.S. offshore wind industry still needs to establish a robust domestic supply chain to meet future demand. To aid in this buildout, DOE plans to publish roadmaps for offshore wind supply chain needs, including ports, manufacturers, and suppliers, while bringing together key stakeholders to take a coordinated approach.
