WindGrid signs its second agreement with U.S.-based partner

26 Oct 2022

BELGIUM - The partners will jointly respond to a request for information issued by five New England states which are seeking to integrate offshore renewable energy resources into their grids.

Elia Group has announced that WindGrid, their newest subsidiary, has now signed its second agreement with a U.S.-based partner. WindGrid and PPL Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding relating to the development of transmission solutions to connect future offshore wind capacity to the onshore grid in New England. The partners will jointly respond to a request for information issued by five New England states which are seeking to integrate offshore renewable energy resources into their grids.

According to Elia, the partnership is built on their expertise in building, integrating and operating offshore high-voltage direct current networks and PPL's experience in building and operating onshore transmission assets in the U.S.

This is WindGrid's second agreement with a U.S.-based partner. In September, WindGrid signed an agreement with NextEra Transmission MidAtlantic relating to the development of offshore wind transmission infrastructure for New Jersey.
