Woodland Biofuels, Inc. has unveiled plans for a $1.35 billion investment to establish a large-scale renewable biofuels production facility at the Port of South Louisiana. The Toronto-based company aims to build one of the world's largest renewable natural gas (RNG) plants and a green hydrogen facility at the Globalplex multimodal facility.

The project is expected to generate 110 direct jobs with an average annual salary exceeding $90,000. Louisiana Economic Development estimates the investment will create 369 new jobs in the region, including 259 indirect roles and approximately 500 construction jobs.

Woodland Biofuels CEO Greg Nuttall emphasized the company's commitment to leveraging Louisiana's skilled workforce and infrastructure. The new facility will also contribute to significant environmental benefits, including the removal of hundreds of thousands of tons of carbon dioxide annually, with carbon sequestration planned for later implementation.

Port of South Louisiana CEO Paul Matthews highlighted the strategic importance of the port, noting that this investment will further diversify the state's energy industry and boost local employment.

The project's front-end engineering design (FEED) study is expected to be completed by mid-2025, with commercial operations projected to begin in 2028.

Greater New Orleans, Inc President and CEO Michael Hecht praised the initiative, underscoring the value of such investments in advancing Louisiana's energy sector.
