World’s Most Powerful Wind Turbine

23 Jan 2023

Western Jutland, Denmark -  Vestas V236-15.0 MW prototype wind turbine produced its first electricity

According to the company, prototype stretches 280m (918 feet) into the air and has a production output of 80 GWh/year. The wind turbine would undergo a test and verification programme to ensure reliability before full-type certification and serial production begins.

David Ritam, Senior Project Manager, thinks the most exciting part of the transportation process was actually seeing these components in the flesh. "You don't realize how big they are until you see this on the tractor-trailer unit going by."

Vestas has announced, that the prototype is erected in Bustoil in Denmark. It's a massive civil engineering feat, actually, to put up one of these turbines onshore. The tower and the nestle and the blade are installed by some of the biggest cranes available onshore and they have actually had to develop special lifting processes to be able to wreck this very, very big turbine.
