Xcel and Transource Partner on Major 345 kV Texas Transmission Line
Xcel Energy and Transource Energy, LLC have been awarded the Beckham-Potter 345 kV transmission project by the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) Board of Directors. The project aims to strengthen the regional grid and meet growing electricity demand in the area.
The transmission line will connect Xcel’s Potter County substation near Amarillo to Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company’s Beckham County substation, spanning approximately 128 miles. The project is estimated to cost $222 million and is expected to enter service by November 2029.
“This project reinforces our commitment to delivering reliable, cost-effective energy to our customers while supporting the region’s long-term energy needs and growing economy,” said Jarred Cooley, strategic planning director at Xcel Energy.
Stacey Burbure, president of Transource Energy, added, “We are excited to partner with Xcel Energy on this critical project that will strengthen the regional transmission network and support the Southwest Power Pool’s vision for a reliable, resilient grid.”
The project is a key component of the SPP’s 2024 Integrated Transmission Planning Assessment and is designed to enhance grid reliability, improve energy delivery, and accommodate future growth in electricity demand across the region.
