Ballard Power Systems, in collaboration with Solaris Bus & Coach, is set to revolutionize sustainable transportation in Europe with the acquisition of 96 hydrogen fuel cell engines. The partnership aims to expedite the adoption of hydrogen-powered buses, offering a major stride towards eco-friendly transit solutions.
The sizeable purchase order, one of the largest Ballard has received from Solaris, encompasses 52 fuel cell engines designated for Solaris Urbino hydrogen buses. Rebus Regionalbus Rostock, a prominent public transport operator in Germany, will deploy these buses, backed by a simultaneous establishment of hydrogen refueling stations in Güstrow and Bad Doberan.
As European cities increasingly prioritize green transportation, Ballard Power Systems secured orders for an additional 44 fuel cell engines that will power Solaris buses across various urban hubs. This collaborative effort with Solaris echoes a commitment to reducing emissions and promoting decarbonization within urban transit networks.
David Mucciacciaro, Chief Commercial Officer of Ballard Power Systems, underscores the significance of fuel cell buses, emphasizing their potential as direct replacements for diesel and CNG buses. With zero emissions and an impressive range of nearly 300 miles per refueling, these buses hold the promise of a greener future for urban mobility.
