INDIA, NEW DELHI – India is planning to launch $5 billion of transmission project tenders by March 2020 to integrate a targeted 175 GW of power from renewable sources into the country’s grid by 2022, reports Reuters.
According to the secretary at the India’s ministry of renewable energy, India will auction 54 gigawatts of transmission projects in phases, 16 GW by the end of June, and further 38 GW will be bid out between July 2019 and March 2020.
The renewable energy targets will require investment in both feeder lines and infrastructure upgrades.
India, which receives twice as much sunshine as European countries, wants to make solar central to its renewable expansion as part of the fight against climate change.
