LS ELECTRIC and GE Vernova Form HVDC Joint Venture
LS ELECTRIC and GE Vernova have agreed to establish Grid X Technology, a joint venture focused on voltage-source HVDC solutions for South Korea.
The companies signed a strategic cooperation agreement on Aug. 25 during CIGRE 2026 in Paris. The joint venture will develop and supply key equipment for South Korea’s voltage-source HVDC market and jointly pursue related projects.
The partnership will support the planned West Coast Energy Highway, a government-led project designed to transmit renewable electricity generated in the Honam region and along the west coast to the Seoul metropolitan area.
Voltage-source HVDC allows flexible, bidirectional power transmission and greater control of electricity flows, making it increasingly relevant to renewable energy integration and grid stability.
Koo Ja-kyun, chairman of LS ELECTRIC, said, “This partnership is a decision to stably build the energy highway by combining world-class technology with domestic experience,” adding, “We will strengthen our competitiveness so that the Republic of Korea can lead global HVDC technology and business.”
The companies said the venture will combine LS ELECTRIC’s domestic project execution experience with GE Vernova’s voltage-source HVDC technology.
