ADS-TEC Energy Nears Permit for 1 GW / 4 GWh German BESS
GERMANY – ADS-TEC Energy announced on October 28 that permitting authorities had confirmed all application documents were complete for its planned 1 GW / 4 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Pulverdingen substation in Markgröningen, Baden-Württemberg. The building permit remains pending.
With grid connection targeted for 2029, the facility is designed to support grid flexibility and renewable energy integration, storing surplus electricity and releasing it when demand increases, while providing frequency regulation and other grid services.
The project is planned to use ADS-TEC Energy’s proprietary battery management technology, with European industrial partners expected to supply transformers, switchgear and extra-high-voltage equipment, reflecting the expanding role of BESS in power systems.
Thomas Speidel, founder and CEO of ADS-TEC Energy, said: “A project of this size requires staying power.”
The company is negotiating with investors and intends to sell a majority stake while retaining long-term project involvement.
