Maryland Approves 20-year Solar Deal With REV Renewables

Maryland officials have approved a 20-year solar power agreement with REV Renewables that is expected to save the state around $300 million.
Under the agreement, Maryland will begin purchasing electricity in 2028 from the Jade Meadow III Solar Project in western Maryland. The 300-MW project is expected to produce about 250,000 MWh of renewable electricity annually, with the state purchasing roughly half of its output.
The project is located mainly in Garrett County on a reclaimed coal mine. Officials estimate the electricity purchased through the agreement could cover nearly 15% of Maryland’s state energy portfolio and provide enough power for more than 20,000 homes annually.
Gov. Wes Moore said the agreement will help lower costs while supporting Maryland’s clean-energy goals and increasing the use of locally generated renewable power.
