Apex Clean Energy Brings 625 MW of Wind and Storage Projects Online Across Three States

30 Jul 2025
Apex Clean Energy has announced the commercial operation of four new wind and energy storage facilities totaling more than 625 MW across Illinois, Maine, and Texas, expanding its operational and construction portfolio to over 3 GW.

All projects became operational in the first half of 2025 and are expected to contribute nearly $150 million in local economic impact. Conservation efforts tied to the installations are supported through the Apex Conservation Grant Program.

The largest of the new assets, Prosperity Wind (300 MW) in Piatt County, Illinois, is projected to generate $93 million in tax revenue, including $58 million for area schools. It will also fund $200,000 in ecological restoration initiatives.

Downeast Wind (126 MW) in Washington County, Maine, marks Apex's entry into the ISO New England market and is expected to generate $20 million in local revenue. The project has driven $156 million in statewide economic activity and supports efforts to restore habitat for the Atlantic salmon.

Two battery storage projects also entered service in Texas. Great Kiskadee Storage (100 MW/200 MWh), developed under the SA Grid Solutions joint venture (with SK Gas and SK Eternix), will provide grid stability in ERCOT and support wetland conservation. Angelo Storage (100 MW/200 MWh), a wholly owned Apex asset in Tom Green County, is projected to generate $13.6 million in tax revenue while enhancing grid resilience.

Ken Young, CEO of Apex Clean Energy, stated that the new assets reflect the company's ability to "deliver the infrastructure our country needs at the moment it's needed most."
