Enlight, Enertrag Start 840 MWh Battery Project
Enlight Renewable Energy and Enertrag have begun construction of a 200 MW/840 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Bertikow, Brandenburg. The facility will store surplus wind and solar electricity for later grid delivery, supporting grid flexibility and renewable energy integration.
Construction began on October 13 beside the Bertikow substation in Uckerfelde.
The project will incorporate grid-forming technology and power conversion systems supplied by SMA, enabling the facility to provide grid stability services.
Commissioning is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027, with commercial operations expected in the first half of 2028.
The facility has a seven-year electricity offtake agreement with EDF Trading, while Entrix will manage energy market optimisation.
The project expands Enlight’s European energy storage portfolio and adds large-scale battery capacity to Germany’s electricity system, supporting the management of variable renewable generation.
