Kongsberg to Supply Power Systems for Four Wind Vessels

Kongsberg Maritime has secured a contract with IWS Fleet, a subsidiary of Integrated Wind Solutions (IWS), to supply vessel designs and integrated technology for four offshore wind commissioning service operation vessels (CSOVs).

The vessels will be built by Nantong Rainbow Offshore & Engineering Equipment in China using Kongsberg’s UT 5519 DEx design. The order expands the Skywalker Class fleet to ten vessels, with the first newbuild scheduled for delivery in 2029.

Kongsberg will supply electrical power systems, propulsion, navigation, bridge equipment, deck machinery and dynamic positioning systems.

Each vessel will feature four rim-drive azimuth thrusters using permanent magnet motors, supporting precise maneuvering between turbines. The double-ended vessels will accommodate up to 120 personnel for offshore commissioning and maintenance.

“The first six vessels have established a strong operational track record,” said Kongsberg Maritime ship design sales director Per Ståle Nykrem.
