Qualitas Energy Expands US Solar Portfolio With Illinois Acquisition

Qualitas Energy has acquired a 164 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Illinois, United States, marking another step in the company’s expansion across the North American renewable energy market.

The project was acquired from Bechtel Enterprises and is currently in the development phase. According to project details, construction is expected to move forward toward commissioning later in the decade, with commercial operation anticipated in 2029.

The acquisition forms part of Qualitas Energy Fund VI, the company’s latest investment vehicle, which continues to deploy capital into large-scale renewable energy infrastructure across key global markets.

The Illinois solar project is also designed with potential future flexibility, with scope for the integration of battery energy storage systems (BESS). This could enhance grid stability and enable a combined solar-and-storage operating model, depending on future development decisions and market conditions.

The site benefits from a secured land position, full permitting status, and a favorable interconnection arrangement within the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) region, supporting long-term grid integration prospects.

The transaction adds to Qualitas Energy’s growing presence in the United States, where the company is actively building a diversified portfolio across solar, wind, and storage assets. The firm continues to focus on utility-scale renewable infrastructure aimed at supporting long-term decarbonization and energy system transformation.

Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
