MISO Selects Ameren Team for $1.23B Iowa 765 kV Project

USA – Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) has selected Ameren Transmission Company of Illinois (ATXI), GridLiance Heartland and Dairyland Power Cooperative for a $1.23 billion transmission project in Iowa.

The East Adair–Minnesota/Iowa State Line–Arbor Hill–York Avenue project comprises 187 miles of 765 kV transmission line, a new 345/765 kV East Adair substation and two 345 kV lines totaling 22 miles.

The project is part of MISO's Long Range Transmission Planning Tranche 2.1 portfolio, supporting expansion of the Midwest transmission backbone.

ATXI and GridLiance will each hold 42.5% ownership, with Dairyland holding 15%.

Shawn Schukar, ATXI chairman and president, said: “We focused on developing a proposal that is reliable, economical and able to be built on time.”

The 345 kV facilities are targeted for operation in June 2032, followed by the 765 kV line in June 2034. Regulatory review and community engagement are still required, as with other Iowa grid projects.
