Mitsubishi Power Plans $490M Savannah Turbine Expansion
USA – Mitsubishi Power Americas has announced a $490 million expansion of its Savannah Machinery Works turbine manufacturing facility in Pooler, Georgia, to increase production capacity for gas turbines, steam turbines and other power generation equipment.
Funded by parent company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the project will add 450,000 square feet to the existing 430,000-square-foot facility, nearly doubling its footprint, and create more than 220 jobs.
The expansion includes additional machining capacity, advanced manufacturing technology and improvements to material flow and production infrastructure.
Mitsubishi Power has signed an expansion framework agreement with the Savannah Economic Development Authority. Construction has not yet begun.
Bill Newsom, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Power Americas, said: “Meeting the growing demand for power will require investment in facilities, in our supply chain and in our workforce – which is what we’re building here at Savannah Machinery Works.”
The facility opened in 2010 and supports growing power generation capacity requirements across the Americas.
