Pennsylvania Invests $14.4M in Electric Grid Resilience
USA – Pennsylvania’s Shapiro administration has announced an additional $14.4 million for its Grid Resilience Grants Program, bringing total funding to nearly $40 million.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) said the investment aims to improve electricity reliability, prevent outages and strengthen infrastructure against severe weather and growing demand.
The program’s first two funding rounds support projects serving more than 60,000 residents across 20 predominantly rural counties.
Approved projects are expected to upgrade 15 substations, install sensors and monitors at 10 substations, and deploy more than 300 smart-grid devices. Additional measures include inspections of over 8,000 utility poles and nearly 3,000 miles of vegetation management.
DEP Secretary Jessica Shirley said: “We’ve seen what strong storms can do to the power grid, and these grants will help keep the lights on when storms hit and the grid is stressed.”
The funding follows previous Pennsylvania grid upgrades and US grid resilience investments.
