BW ESS Secures Financing for 400 MW Hams Hall BESS Project
UK — BW ESS has secured debt financing for its Hams Hall battery energy storage system (BESS) in the West Midlands, planned to reach 400 MW / 1,424 MWh following its second phase.
OCBC, Rabobank and Societe Generale will provide equal financing shares, with Rabobank acting as Facility Agent. The transaction is expected to close at the project's commercial operations date.
Located beside National Grid's Hams Hall substation, the facility will initially deliver 350 MW / 1,243 MWh. BW ESS expects it to become Europe's largest operational BESS by energy capacity upon completion.
Nick Stamp, BW ESS CFO, said: “Securing financing for Hams Hall is another major milestone for BW ESS and for the wider UK energy storage market.”
The first phase has a 10-year revenue floor and optimisation agreement with EDF.
The project is intended to support renewable energy integration and grid flexibility across the UK.
