Ecowende Installs Final Turbine at 760 MW Offshore Wind Farm
Van Oord and Vestas have installed the final turbine at the Ecowende offshore wind farm in the North Sea. All 52 turbines were installed from 30 May to 30 October. The site is 53 kilometres off IJmuiden in the Hollandse Kust (west), Lot VI.
Vestas supplies, installs and commissions the V236-15.0 MW turbines. Van Oord transported them from Eemshaven aboard Boreas and installed the foundations and inter-array cables. The project underscores the importance of renewable generation and grid integration.
The wind farm has an installed capacity of approximately 760 MW, equivalent to around 3% of Dutch electricity demand. It generated first power in July and is expected to become operational by the end of 2026.
Ecowende, a joint venture of Shell, Eneco and Chubu, has introduced a bird corridor, AI-based species-recognition radar and red-painted blades on seven turbines. The effectiveness of these measures in reducing bird collisions remains under study.
