Oregon Reviews 488 MW Saddle Butte Wind and BESS Project

Saddle Butte Wind LLC, a Brookfield Renewable subsidiary, is seeking approval for the Saddle Butte Energy Facility in Gilliam County, Oregon, combining a 488 MW wind farm with a 488 MW battery energy storage system (BESS).

Located approximately six miles southwest of Arlington, the project would occupy 11,500 acres of privately owned agricultural land and include up to 70 wind turbines.

The proposed facility would connect to the regional grid near existing Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) 500 kV transmission infrastructure.

The Oregon Department of Energy received the project's Notice of Intent on December 12, 2025, and issued a Project Order on May 1, 2026.

The developer has two years from the Project Order to submit a preliminary Application for Site Certificate.

Environmental, cultural and land-use assessments remain part of the regulatory review. Construction could begin in 2027, with commercial operation targeted for 2029, subject to regulatory approval.
