Joi Harris Named First Female CEO of DTE Energy

DTE Energy has appointed Joi Harris as its new president and CEO, effective September 8. Harris will be the first female to lead the Detroit-based utility, marking a historic milestone for the company.

Harris, who began her career at DTE as a high school engineering co-op and has been with the company for 34 years, currently serves as president and chief operating officer. She played a key role in overseeing a $1 billion energy project in St. Clair County and led initiatives that improved the company's electric reliability by 70% year-over-year in 2024.

She succeeds Jerry Norcia, who will transition to executive chair of the board, providing advisory support to Harris. Norcia has been with DTE Energy since 2002 and became CEO in 2019.

Harris holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Wayne State University and is involved in several industry and community boards focused on engineering and energy education.

DTE Energy's electric unit serves approximately 2.3 million customers in Southeastern Michigan, while its natural gas division serves 1.3 million customers statewide.
