Saft to supply 122 MWh of BESS for Axpo in France
Saft has signed two contracts with Axpo to deliver two battery energy storage systems totaling 55 MW/122 MWh in France, with deliveries scheduled for early 2027.
The Orbec project in Normandy will have a 41 MW/92 MWh capacity using 18 Intensium Flex battery containers. The Bois Paillet project in Centre-Val de Loire will provide 14 MW/30 MWh using six containers.
Saft will supply integrated BESS solutions with power conversion equipment and energy management systems. The projects will provide energy arbitrage and ancillary services to the French grid.
Saft’s liquid-cooled battery technology supports intensive cycling and rapid response to grid conditions, while its I-Sight digital platform will support performance monitoring, maintenance and asset management.
“These projects mark an important step in expanding Axpo’s battery storage portfolio in France,” said Frank Amend, Axpo Head of Batteries & Hybrid Systems.
The projects are the first collaboration between Saft and Axpo and include noise-mitigation measures to meet local environmental requirements.
