Ukraine, Germany sign €155 million grid deals
Ukraine and Germany have signed energy agreements worth more than $174 million (€155 million) covering grid restoration, critical equipment and energy resilience as Ukraine repairs damaged infrastructure and prepares for winter.
Ukrenergo, 50Hertz and Amprion will cooperate to accelerate Ukraine’s access to transformers, cables and switchgear by identifying manufacturing capacity and available production slots.
“We will use our partners’ capabilities to identify manufacturing capacity and coordinate efforts to find the earliest available production slots from international manufacturers of transformers, cables, switchgear and other essential equipment,” said Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine’s first deputy prime minister and energy minister.
Ukraine’s Energy Ministry and Siemens Energy will also cooperate on energy system restoration and modernization, including consideration of 12 gas turbine units for distributed power generation.
Germany separately announced a $280 million (€250 million) contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. The agreements followed the Ukrainian-German Business Forum led by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
