EU Launches $5B T-MED Clean Energy Investment Platform
EUROPE – The European Commission launched the T-MED Investment Platform on October 26, 2026, offering up to $5 billion (€4.5 billion) in EU guarantee capacity to support clean energy investment across the Mediterranean.
The guarantees, provided through the European Fund for Sustainable Development Plus (EFSD+), aim to attract private financing for electricity transmission and distribution, energy storage, renewable generation and cross-border interconnections.
In Egypt, T-MED supports a $1.8 billion (€1.6 billion) grid modernization program involving substations and transmission lines to integrate solar and wind generation.
In Tunisia, the initiative supports two 100 MW solar plants and associated transmission infrastructure, alongside wider Mediterranean grid interconnection development.
Dubravka Šuica, European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, said: “Our ambition is clear: to make clean energy a driver of shared prosperity, competitiveness and security across the Mediterranean and Europe.”
T-MED aims to mobilize up to $27.9 billion (€25 billion) in investments by 2035, supporting broader regional renewable energy development.
