Sonnedix Commissions 140.5 MWh BESS Projects in Portugal
PORTUGAL – Sonnedix has commenced operations at two hybrid solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in northern Portugal, combining 68.2 MWp of photovoltaic capacity with 140.5 MWh of storage.
Sonnedix Acail combines 28.3 MWp of solar generation with a 24 MW/60.2 MWh battery system, while Sonnedix Felgueiras comprises 39.9 MWp of solar capacity and a 32 MW/80.3 MWh BESS.
According to Sonnedix, these are Portugal’s first hybrid solar-storage installations operating on the national distribution grid. Both batteries operate in hybrid mode and can charge directly from the grid.
The systems were developed alongside their respective solar plants, sharing existing sites without requiring additional land.
Paulo Pimentel, Director of Sonnedix Portugal, said: “These projects reflect the evolution of our portfolio towards hybrid solutions capable of providing greater flexibility to the system and promoting a more efficient integration of renewable energy.”
The commissioning follows recent solar-storage developments in Portugal and investment in hybrid renewable infrastructure.
