Trina Storage Commissions 15 MW/60 MWh BESS in Portugal
Trina Storage has commissioned a 15 MW/60 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Albispark site in Castelo Branco, Portugal, in partnership with Prosolia Energy.
The system is integrated with an existing 34.4 MWp solar plant and is among Portugal’s largest operational battery storage projects. It is Trina Storage’s first commissioned BESS in Portugal and Prosolia Energy’s first international utility-scale battery storage hybridization project.
Trina Storage supplied Elementa battery cabinets, power conversion systems (PCS), medium-voltage skids, a power plant controller and commissioning services.
The solar-plus-storage configuration enables electricity generated by the solar plant to be stored and dispatched later, increasing operational flexibility and supporting renewable integration into Portugal’s grid.
“Albispark is an important milestone for Prosolia Energy and demonstrates the value that battery storage brings to the energy transition,” said Pedro Pereira da Silva, Prosolia Energy’s Portugal country manager.
The project forms part of Portugal’s Recovery and Resilience Plan.
