Entergy Secures $13.7M for Transmission Grid Upgrades
The U.S. Department of Energy has selected Entergy for $13.7 million in federal funding to deploy advanced transmission technologies across Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
Under DOE’s SPARK program, the four-year project will deploy dynamic line rating technology, geographic surveys, substation and terminal upgrades, and hardware integration across 1,125 miles of existing transmission lines.
The project targets at least a 25% increase in transfer capability on selected corridors. Early modeling indicates potential increases of 29% to 61% in available power capacity. The upgrades will address load growth from industrial development, manufacturing and data centers while improving use of existing transmission infrastructure.
“Installing this new technology is intended to help us deliver more reliable, affordable electricity to customers by reducing congestion, improving system readiness for large loads, and potentially avoiding capital costs for other transmission upgrades,” said John Hudson, Entergy’s chief external affairs officer.
